Handstands, cold showers and competing again - Adam Burgess and Kimberley Woods, GB Canoe Slalom

Published on: 29th April, 2021

Adam Burgess and Kimberley Woods have known they were going to the Olympics since October 2019. Of course, there's been lots of uncertainty in between, but they're looking forward to making their Olympic debuts in Tokyo.

Kimberley Woods is in canoe slalom K1. Adam in the C1. I spoke to them both on an international competition day ahead of the European Championships.

Kimberley talks about the positives from the last year and how she feels so much stronger than in 2020. She can't wait to get started.

Adam is equally excited - but he talks about the mindfulness and yoga he's been doing during lockdown. He incorporates a cold shower into his day and does a handstand before competition.

Thanks to Adam and Kimberley. Here's the BBC Sport article I mentioned in the podcast https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/53789670.amp

I’ve covered 5 Olympic and 5 Paralympic Games at home and abroad. Tokyo 2020 was to have been numbers 6. So how are the athletes preparing during Covid times. And what are they learning in the run up to the Games. The Podcast lasts around 10 mins and comes out daily, Monday to Friday. I’m also using it to raise money for Maggie’s Cancer Centres to thank them for the help they’ve given my wife and family during her bowel cancer journey.
