Decking the office as a homage to the Games and an award for his coverage - BBC Sport's Nick Hope

Published on: 19th March, 2021

Sharing his love of the Olympics and Paralympics is the BBC's Nick Hope. THis week Nick won an award from the Sports Journalist Association for his work. And we talk about some of the key stories he's covered this year.

However, I was sidetracked when I saw his office! It is covered in memorabilia from Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games. And it's great top hear Nick talk about his collections.

Nick talks about two stories in particular. The 'topless Tongan' Pita Taufatofua, the taekwondo fighter turned cross-country skier in a country that never sees snow. And Michael Gunning, who describes himself as the black, gay swimmer who wants to be the Usain Bolt of the pool.

Thanks for all your support for this podcast. I'd love you to give me a follow. And if you're enjoying this series would you consider buying me a virtual coffee? All money goes to Maggies Cancer Centres.

About the Podcast

Destination Tokyo
Olympic and Paralympic stories in the run up to the Tokyo Games.
I’ve covered 5 Olympic and 5 Paralympic Games at home and abroad. Tokyo 2020 was to have been numbers 6. So how are the athletes preparing during Covid times. And what are they learning in the run up to the Games. The Podcast lasts around 10 mins and comes out daily, Monday to Friday. I’m also using it to raise money for Maggie’s Cancer Centres to thank them for the help they’ve given my wife and family during her bowel cancer journey.
