Being a track athlete and a Paracanoeist - Laura Sugar

Published on: 12th May, 2021

Here's a chat with the super talented Laura Sugar who's part of the GB Paracanoe squad aiming for a medal in Tokyo this summer.

As well as training on the water, Laura can also be found at the High Performance Athletics Centre in Loughborough where she's in the spring squad. She competed at the Rio Paralympics in 2016.

Laura was inspired to search out Paralympic sport after seeing an athlete with her disability compete at London 2012 and she hopes she can in turn help others find elite sport.

I'm behind the scenes with the paracanoe squad this week to mark 100 days to go to the Tokyo Paralympics.

Finally - here are the details for my fund raising

About the Podcast

Destination Tokyo
Olympic and Paralympic stories in the run up to the Tokyo Games.
I’ve covered 5 Olympic and 5 Paralympic Games at home and abroad. Tokyo 2020 was to have been numbers 6. So how are the athletes preparing during Covid times. And what are they learning in the run up to the Games. The Podcast lasts around 10 mins and comes out daily, Monday to Friday. I’m also using it to raise money for Maggie’s Cancer Centres to thank them for the help they’ve given my wife and family during her bowel cancer journey.
