Ali Jawad on vaccination hopes to help his Tokyo preparation

Published on: 18th January, 2021

Today's guest in this ten minute podcast is Paralympic powerlifter Ali Jawad who's hoping a Covid vaccination will help his Tokyo preparations enormously.

Ali has Crohn's Disease which makes him clinically extremely vulnerable.

He's competed in three Games, including a silver in Rio. The last four years have been incredibly challenging and it's touch and go if he makes Tokyo. His body has suffered with his bouts of illness but is determined not to give in. Getting to the Games will be an achievement.

Even before lockdown he had to self-isolate because of the severity of his illness. So his home gym has been in place for some time. And now he's gearing up for his next competition, scheduled for Manchester in March.

Thanks for listening. I'm producing these podcasts to tell athletes' stories but also to raise money for Maggie's Cancer Centres. If you've enjoyed listening, maybe you'd consider a small donation.
